Thomas Thaddeus Carruthers, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 26, 2023, at the age of 63. He was born on July 30, 1959, in Paducah, Kentucky, to Alvin Ware and Frances Jane Carruthers Godwin. Thomas grew up in Paducah. He cherished his close-knit community in Irving, Texas.
Education was important to Thomas, and he pursued his passion for refrigeration and plumbing at West Kentucky Vocational School, earning a degree in the field. He was skilled in his profession, and his hard work and dedication were evident in all that he did.
Thomas had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. Each morning, he would wake up with a smile, eager to make his favorite cup of coffee and delve into the pages of a good book. His love for reading extended to his cherished Bible, which he held close to his heart.
Thomas's lifelong dream was to serve his country in the military. Although circumstances might have led him down different paths, his patriotism and love for his country never waned.
Thomas leaves behind a loving legacy in his family. He is survived by his daughter Danielle Carruthers Philipose (Thomas) and daughter Toby Jackson Williams (Shun). He also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren: Chasity Griffin, Samya Ethridge, Davion Hambrick, Denver Philipose, Rye Philipose and his great-grandson Nasir Zakee Green.
He is reunited in peace with his mother, Frances Godwin, stepfather, James Godwin and father, Alvin Ware, who all preceded him in death. Thomas also fondly remembered his late brothers and sisters Leroy Archia, Frank Carruthers, Lena Louise Carruthers and Lucille Clark.
Thomas's passing has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones. He will be deeply missed by his surviving sisters: Pat Rogan, Flora “Peaches” McKendrick, Beulah Hannon, Anna (Ann) Taylor, Ardrene Carruthers, Carmelia Godwin, Teresa Godwin, and Carrie “Sharmain” Godwin. His brother, Lewis Carruthers, and numerous nieces and nephews also share in the sorrow of his passing.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to those who cared for Thomas over the years. Their dedication and support were truly appreciated. Special thanks go to Anna Taylor, Carmelia Godwin, Jamal Cannon, Brandon Cannon, Xavier “Zay” Carruthers, James "BJ" Johnson, Donnie Taylor, Susanna Green, Ellen "Meoshee" Ware and Eddie Ware.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Thomas Thaddeus Carruthers will be held at 11:00 am in the Chism-Smith Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 5th. Friends, family, and all those whose lives were touched by Thomas are welcome to attend.
As we mourn his loss, let us also cherish the wonderful memories and the love that Thomas shared with each of us. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us all.
