Sara Estrada

On August 28th, our family became poorer, and heaven became richer. Beloved wife and mother Sara passed from the confines of our living world and into our Heavenly Father’s embrace.

She was born in Chihuahua Mexico where she met her husband of 52 years. He had been working in the United States with the Braceros program so after they married, they settled in Dallas in the 70s. It was hard for them to be away from family, so they often made trips back to Mexico in the summer and winter breaks.

She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. She often volunteered and encouraged her children to volunteer teaching them how to be contributing members of the community, a trait she inherited from her own mother. Everyone knew her through her actions or that of her children who she frequently sent with homemade empanadas or other home baked goods to share.

Throughout her life she volunteered at Gabe P Allen Elementary school. She worked as a lunch lady at Amelia Earhart Elementary she also worked with the pre-school program HIPPY International and AVANCE as an instructor.  She was lovingly known as “Teacher Sarita” to the kids of the programs. She volunteered at countless events and was always lending an ear and a meal to those in need.

Gardening was one of her favorite activities. She loved all plants but especially flowers. Roses and orchids were among her favorites. Every plant found a home with her and flourished. She loved music, she loved dancing to cumbias and norteñas. The radio was always on at the house. She dearly loved to laugh, constantly asking her children to put on comedy shows or movies in the evenings. She loved going to the opera, listening to Mariachi, watching traditional folklorico and theater.

Travel was another one of her passions, we were lucky to have many trips all over the US, Mexico and Europe as a family. She developed a very adventurous food palette after being exposed to many different cultures in said travels. She'd often try to incorporate the variety of flavors she'd liked into her everyday recipes. We were the Guinea pigs for those experiments; some were hits and some we will never speak of again.

Our mother met so many people whom she befriended almost instantly. She had a warm smile and a joyful and kind spirit that drew people in. Her phone never stopped ringing and people would often visit. She was a homemaker most of her life and she sure knew how to make everyone feel at home. There was only one cardinal rule, when a guest walked through the door: “No” was not an acceptable answer to her question: “Are you hungry?”. Most of the time the question wasn’t even asked, a plate was magically served. She never let anyone who came to our home leave hungry or unloved.

She was smart; she was a fighter. She beat cancer, she went through many tough, uncertain situations in her life and many changes, too many really to mention. She always trusted in God. She persevered with that unwavering faith.

She is missed dearly by her husband Jesus Jose, her children Luis Raul, Maribel, Benny, Cindy, her daughter in law Breanna Leigh, and her grandchildren Isabelle and Max Alexander. She is also missed by her brothers and sisters Elvira, Cristobal, Jose Margarito, Consuelo, Josefina, Maria de Jesus, Ricardo, and the rest of the extended family and friends who knew her. She was welcomed to heaven by those who preceded her.  Her father Jose Margarito, her mother Maria Consuelo, older sister Rosa Maria and niece Claudia.

El 28 de agosto, nuestra familia se hizo más pobre y el cielo se hizo más rico. Amada esposa y madre Sara pasó de los confines de nuestro mundo viviente al abrazo de nuestro Padre Celestial.

Nació en Chihuahua México donde conoció a su esposo de 52 años. Él había estado trabajando de Bracero en los Estados Unidos y después de casarse, se establecieron en Dallas en los años 70. Era difícil para ellos estar lejos de la familia, por lo que a menudo hacían viajes de regreso a México en las vacaciones de verano e invierno.

Fue parroquiana activa de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes. A menudo se ofreció como voluntaria y animó a sus hijos a hacerlo, enseñándoles cómo ser miembros contribuyentes de la comunidad, un rasgo que heredó de su propia madre. Todos la conocían por sus acciones o las de sus hijos, a quienes frecuentemente enviaba con empanadas caseras u otras delicias para compartir.

A lo largo de su vida fue voluntaria en la escuela primaria Gabe P Allen. Trabajó como encargada del almuerzo en la escuela primaria Amelia Earhart, y también trabajo con el programa preescolar HIPPY International y AVANCE como instructora. Los niños de los programas la conocían cariñosamente como la “Maestra Sarita”. Se ofreció como voluntaria en innumerables eventos y siempre escuchaba y apoyaba a los necesitados.

La jardinería era una de sus actividades favoritas. Amaba todas las plantas, pero especialmente las flores. Las rosas y las orquídeas estaban entre sus favoritas. Cualquier planta que sembraba florecía en su jardín. Le daba mucha alegría verlas crecer y no era raro verla hablando con ellas. Le encantaba la música, le encantaba bailar cumbias y norteñas. El radio siempre estaba tocando en la casa. Le encantaba reírse y pedía constantemente a sus hijos que pusieran espectáculos de comedia o películas por las noches. Le encantaba ir a la ópera, escuchar mariachi, ver folklórico tradicional y teatro.

Viajar era otra de sus pasiones, tuvimos la suerte de tener muchos viajes por todo Estados Unidos, México y Europa en familia. Desarrolló un gusto de alimentos muy aventurero después de haber estado expuesta a muchas culturas diferentes en dichos viajes. A menudo intentaba incorporar la variedad de sabores que le gustaban en sus recetas diarias. Nosotros probamos sus experimentos, algunos fueron éxitos y de otros mejor no digamos.

Nuestra madre conoció a tantas personas de las que se hizo amiga casi al instante. Tenía una sonrisa cálida y un espíritu alegre y amable que atraía a la gente. Su teléfono nunca dejaba de sonar y la gente la visitaba con frecuencia. Fue ama de casa la mayor parte de su vida y sabía cómo hacer que todos se sintieran como en casa. Solo había una regla cuando un invitado entraba por la puerta: "No" no era una respuesta aceptable a su pregunta: "¿Les sirvo algo?". La mayoría de las veces ni siquiera se hizo la pregunta, de por magia aparecía un platillo por delante. Ella nunca permitió que nadie que viniera a nuestra casa se fuera con hambre o sin amor.

Ella era inteligente; ella era una luchadora. Venció al cáncer, pasó por muchas situaciones difíciles e inciertas en su vida y muchos cambios, demasiados para mencionarlos. Ella siempre confiaba en Dios. Seguía adelante con una fe inquebrantable.

Su esposo Jesús José, sus hijos Luis Raúl, Maribel, Benny, Cindy, su nuera Breanna Leigh y sus nietos Isabelle y Max Alexander la extrañan mucho. También la extrañan sus hermanos y hermanas Elvira, Cristóbal, José Margarito, Consuelo, Josefina, María de Jesús, Ricardo y el resto de la familia extendida y amigos que la conocieron. Fue acogida en el cielo por quienes la precedieron. Su padre José Margarito, su madre María Consuelo, su hermana mayor Rosa María y su sobrina Claudia.
