R.T. Bryant

May 8, 1930 — July 19, 2024

R.T. Bryant, a revered member of his community and beloved patriarch, passed away on July 19th, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on May 8th, 1930, in Temple, Oklahoma, to Jesse and Katie Mae Bryant, R.T.'s early life was rooted in the rich soils of Southwestern Oklahoma and later in Dallas, Texas.

From his humble beginnings as a sharecropper to his teenage years working as a bellhop, R.T.'s work ethic was evident. He carved out a successful career as a carpenter, which eventually led to his establishment as a respected custom home builder. In his retirement, he continued to work with his hands, operating Poor Boy's Mowing and creating and selling country-styled furniture alongside his wife.

R.T. loved the outdoors and had a passion for various hobbies including fishing, bowling, square dancing, go-kart racing, off-roading, and enjoying time in the casinos and mountains of New Mexico. His life was a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for challenges.

He married his life's love, Helen Virginia Belew, on August 19th, 1950. Together, they shared a life filled with love and laughter until her passing in 2020.

R.T. leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance, survived by his children, Debbie Rodriguez and husband Leo of Mesquite, Barbara Claire of Weatherford, Russell Bryant and wife Vicki of Venus, and Paul Bryant and wife Kim of Gilmer. He was a cherished grandfather to Daniel, Clayton, Emily, Chance, Matthew, Benjamin, and Abbie, and great-grandfather to Walt, Porter, Lizzie, Turner, Lorie, Charlie, Clyde, and Reese. He also leaves behind his brother, Kalcy Bryant, and sister, Sylvia Deal.

Predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Katie Mae Bryant; his loving wife, Helen; son-in-law, Mike; grandson, Bryan; and siblings, J.B., Leon, and Betty June, R.T.'s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

R.T.'s life was marked by his joy, energy, and the deep, immeasurable love he had for his family and friends. A celebration of his well-lived life will reflect his enduring spirit. His presence in our lives was a gift—one that will forever be cherished and remembered. Rest in peace, R.T. Bryant. May your spirit find the same joy and freedom in eternity that you found in the mountains of New Mexico.
