Robert Henry Hamshar

August 29, 1941 — April 9, 2025

Robert Henry Hamshar, affectionately known by many as “Songbird Bob” and “Dear Ol’ Dad,” passed away on April 9, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 29, 1941, Bob left Chicago as a teenager alongside his brother Vic to chase the California dream. While in California he met and married Mae and they were happy for many years and remained friends even though they divorced. That journey laid the foundation for his lifelong love of laughter, creativity, and camaraderie. He eventually made his way to Texas, where he met the love of his life.

A skilled pressman, Bob took great pride in his career in the printing industry, where he showcased not only his technical abilities but also his artistic flair. His dedication to his craft was rivaled only by the values he upheld through his involvement in organizations such as the Pressman Associations and the Elks Lodge. Bob’s Christian faith served as a guiding light throughout his life, grounding him with strength and purpose.

Bob was a true entertainer at heart. Known for his love of karaoke, pool, horseshoes, and classic car shows with his beloved El Camino, he became a cherished figure among family and friends. Shouting or texting “Roll Tide” during Alabama football games, or delivering one of his many witty remarks, Bob brought laughter and joy wherever he went. His humor was often marked by his playful catchphrases like “5 dolla,” “I’m just saying,” and “Never better.”

In 1982, Bob married Shirley Hamshar, his beloved wife, with whom he shared a life filled with devotion, humor, and deep affection. Together they built a large, loving family that was his greatest pride and joy.

Bob is survived by his children: Debbie Hamshar, Jamie Hoppel, Joann Trubatisky, Melissa Leveille, Dorothy Howard, Steve Trubatisky, Leslie Hofmann, Lonnie Woodside, Debbie Lynn, and Brandi Hamshar; Brothers: Bud (Edith) and Raymond.
