We announce the passing of our beloved Phyllis Ellen Barneswho left us on August 1, 2023, at age 71. She was born January 27th, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois. She is predeceased by her parents Carl Tolbert Sr, and Pearl Tolbert, as well as her siblings, George, Carl Jr, Sharon and Carlene. She graduated from Delaware State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She found her life partner for 50 years in her husband Earl Barnes Jr. She spent most of her life in Rochester, New York where she worked for Eastman Kodak Company and was a devout Catholic who attended The Immaculate Conception St. Bridges Church. She passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by her loving husband and devoted children John, Courtland, Byron and Maisha.
She was an undeniable presence who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. With her loving and charismatic ways, witty humor, and no-nonsense personality she leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
She is survived by her husband Earl Eden Barnes, Jr, her four children John, Courtland (Dalia), Byron and Maisha. Her sistersDarlene (Mickey) Palmer, and Susan Clay, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
The family appreciates your condolences and support during this time of remembrance. We will have a viewing and service on August 11, 2023, from 10 AM though 2 pm.
