Paul Hirst Barger, 95, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, in his current residence in Rockwall, Texas. Born on August 16, 1929, to Loomis Lawton and Mary Josephine Barger, Paul grew up in Prescott and graduated from Prescott High School before marrying the love of his life, Hazel Colleene Parks on September 4, 1949.
Paul spent twenty years with the Irving Police Department, coming up the ranks from patrolman to Captain before he left the police to work in education. He worked for Irving, Dallas, and Carrollton ISDs as their Facilities Director and served as the president of the Texas Association of School Business Officials.
Paul served with the Arkansas National Guard from 1948 - 1950. He also participated actively in numerous civic organizations including the National PTA, Texas PTA, Nimitz Booster Club, and the Irving Softball League. Furthermore, his spiritual life was enriched by his membership and participation at Oakview Baptist Church.
An avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing, hobbies that reflected his love for nature and adventure. Paul shared his adventures with his beloved wife Hazel, until her passing in 2019. Paul lived a life filled with love, joy, and profound commitment to his family.
Paul leaves behind a loving family, including his children: Pam Reed and husband Allen, Brenda Bingam and husband Kurt; his cherished grandchildren: Kenneth, Misty, Bryan, Amanda, Brent, Summer, and Brad; and their spouses, who brought joy into his life. His legacy continues through his thirteen great-grandchildren: Paul, Kamryn, Juliette, Lauren, Lynette, Allie, Emory, Madison, Lilliana, Caleb, Rhett, Evie, and Andy. He is also survived by his sister Jo Crist, brother John Barger and his wife Jan, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Colleene Parks Barger, his parents, siblings Avatine Barger, Sue Goodwin, and Stan Barger, granddaughter Lindsay and great grandson Eric as well as several beloved family members.
Paul's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his faith. His legacy of kindness, leadership, and compassion will remain an enduring inspiration to all who knew him.
Paul Hirst Barger will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and reverence.
