Michael Douglas Lane

Michael Douglas Lane, 68, passed away on August 27, 2021, in Irving, Texas. He was born on June 12, 1953, in Atmore, Alabama, to Hurbert Harold Lane and Pearl (Turberville) Lane. Being from a military family, Mike grew up moving around to different parts of the world, including Germany, and several places throughout the US before landing in Garland, Texas when he was a teenager. He was a graduate of Garland High School and University of Texas Arlington with a bachelors degree in marketing. He was a merchandiser for several companies over the course of his career and was at Home Depot for the past 5 years. Mike moved to Irving in the mid-80s eventually meeting and marrying the love of his life, Kathleen, where they raised their family. He attended First Baptist Church, was a member of a UTA alumni group, and was a volunteer with Old Kit Cemetery Association. Mike's true passions included golfing with his long-time golf partner Jim Pittman, working on any and all projects with his dearest and close friend Joe Benavidez. He would also use any excuse to stay busy by mowing a neighbor's lawn, painting fences or helping with his daughters home projects. Above all, he was a University of Alabama football fan and the Crimson Tide ran through his veins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Andrew Merrell.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Lane; daughters Kelly Lane of Dallas, Marcie Lane of Plano, Cassidy Lane and boyfriend Matt Mora of Irving; four brothers and sisters Peggy Merrell and husband Steve of Dallas, John Lane and wife Cindy of Garland, Bob Lane and wife Tracy of Garland, and Sheila Armstrong and husband Glenn of Rowlett; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Kellie Robic and husband Mark and Kary Berg all of Irving.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18th at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Irving.
