Michael Vernon Allred

May 18, 1940 — July 3, 2020

Obituary On Friday, July 3rd, 2020, Michael (Mike) V. Allred, loving husband and father of three children, 4 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, passed away at age 80. Mike was born on May 18th 1940 in Hillsboro, TX to Vernon and Elizabeth (Browning) Allred. After graduating Hillsboro High School, Mike joined the United States Air Force where he spent his career with the 7th Bomb Wing at Carswell and the 1st Mobile Communications Group during this time he polished his skills in electronics. After his time serving in the military and in Vietnam, he returned home and found the love of his life, Delia Jean (Rogers) Allred, wife of 56 years with whom they had three children, Jim (wife Cindy), Sheryl, and Leaman (wife Gwen). Mike was a self-made man and expanded on his knowledge of electronics by self-study practice at home designing/building radios, converting one company's designs from analog to the digital age. He retired as a C++ Programmer from Jack Henry and Associates. One passion was to continue programming with his friends and for his own personal projects. He loved being around, meeting and visiting with people/family. He and my mother had a knack of making people feel at home and part of the family. He also enjoyed conversation with friends, his children and as of late, his grand-children. Mike was a man of many hobbies and great intelligence. He was a licensed amateur radio operator. He served as president of the Irving Amateur Radio Club and was an active member for a number of years. His love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was seen as his service as a Sunday School teacher, a faithful greeter, and a Deacon. At church, Mike loved showing his affection for Jean and would often sit with his arm around her, holding her hand, or gifting her a sweet kiss. Mike was widely known for his beautiful and equally delicious bread baking skills. Mike would spend countless hours baking bread and giving them to his friends and family. One of his favorite activities was going canoeing and camping with his family. Mike thoroughly enjoyed entertaining and hosting barbeques at his house. Mike got a kick out of coordinating his outfits with his wife and wearing statement ties. Mike was preceded in death by his Father, Vernon Austin Allred; Mother, Mary Elizabeth (Browning) Allred and his brother, Gary Austin Allred. He is survived by his wife, Delia Jean (Rogers) Allred; Son, James (Jimmy) Allred, Daughter, Sheryl D. Allred and Son, Leaman V. Allred along with four grand-children and two great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at Chism-Smith Funeral Home, 403 S. Britain Rd, Irving, TX 75060 at 11:30AM, and internment will be at DFW National Cemetery at 1:15PM, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
