Mary Sue Hulsey, affectionately known as Nana, was born on June 1, 1937, in Traskwood, Arkansas, to Arrie “Arlin” and Ruth Landreth. She passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, in Grapevine, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength that will forever be cherished by her family and friends.

Mary grew up in Traskwood, where she cultivated her deep-rooted connections with nature and the community. She graduated from Glen Rose High School, a formative experience that shaped her lifelong values of hard work and family. On June 10, 1956, Mary married the love of her life, Van Ray Hulsey, a partnership that would last until his passing. Their bond served as an inspiration for all who knew them.

In 1963, Mary embraced the change of moving to Texas, becoming proud of her new home while never forgetting her Arkansas roots. Her professional journey included dedicated work at Safeway, Minyards, and Sack and Save, where she became well-known for her warm personality and dependable presence. Through her career, she built lasting relationships, earning the respect of colleagues and customers alike.

Mary is lovingly remembered by her family, which includes her sister Myrtie Jo McCutcheon and her husband Kenneth, as well as her brother Roy “Bo” Landreth and his wife Sherry. She is survived by her son Larry Hulsey and his wife Alene, her daughters Vanessa Yates and her husband Barton, Sherrill Jones, Jan Rose and her husband David, and Kathy McWilliams and her husband Robert. Her grandchildren – Jason, Andrew, Veronica, Victoria, Michael, Marissa, Lyndsey, Logan, Jonathan, Brian, Lauren, Nicholas, Heather, Adam, and Trevor – brought immense joy to her life, along with her 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Van Ray Hulsey and her son Chris Hulsey, as well as her parents. Additionally, she was also preceded by six brothers and four sisters, each of whom she held dear in her heart.

Throughout her life, Mary found joy in her yard, nurturing both plants and friendships. Her love extended to her cherished dogs, Angus, Duke, and Daisy, who were constant companions and part of her family.

Mary Sue Hulsey leaves behind not just a family but a profound sense of warmth and caring that will resonate in the hearts of those she touched. Her legacy is one of resilience, love, and community spirit, qualities that will continue to inspire generations to come.
