Maria Mercedes Rivera, passed away on June 25, 2023, at the age of 72. She was born on April 10, 1951, in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, to Alberto Lugo Merced and Maria de Jesus Gonzalez. Mercedes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who touched the lives of many with her kind heart and unwavering faith.

Throughout her life, Mercedes found joy in sewing and reading. These hobbies allowed her to express her creativity and immerse herself in stories and knowledge. On July 11, 1987, she married the love of her life, Jose D. Riviera, and they shared a beautiful journey together.

Mercedes was a fervent believer in Christ and dedicated her life to serving God and others. Her compassionate nature and selfless acts of kindness made a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know her. She approached each day with a heart full of love and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of those around her.

Mercedes is survived by her beloved husband, Jose Rivera, and their daughter, Liza Rivera. She was also a proud grandmother to Joel A. Sellas, Yariel J. Sellas, and Jeziel O. Sellas. Mercedes' family was a source of immense joy and pride for her, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She is also survived by her mother, Maria De Jesus Gonzalez, and her brothers, Alberto Lugo De Jesus and Jose A. Lugo De Jesus. Mercedes shared a special bond with her family, and their love and support brought her strength and comfort throughout her life.

Mercedes was preceded in death by her sister, Awilda Lugo De Jesus, and her father, Alberto Lugo Merced. Their memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved them.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all those who were present and provided care and support during Mercedes' battle with cancer. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
