Our dear Mother Lydia Davila sadly passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the age of 94. She will always be remembered as the squeezable, story telling Grandma. She was a great caretaker of all her grandkids as well as other children under her loving gaze.
She is preceded in death by father Cruz and mother Timotea, brother Gregory, sister Sotera, granddaughter Kelly Ann and son Paul Jr.
She is survived by her loving daughters Virgina (Robert) Alba, Linda (Tom) Donovan, Paula Marie (Daniel) Quintero, and Chris White. She leaves behind Grandchildren Arthur (Ruby) Alba, Paul Emilio Donovan, Robert Anthony (Lucy) Alba, Elizabeth Ann Alba, Thomas Joseph (Emily) Donovan, Samantha Lydia (Sal) Patino, Matthew Christopher (Stephanie) Limon, Mark Anthony Didier, Christian Jay Miller, Kelly Addison White, and Kerry Sheffield White. She also leaves 15 Great grandchildren and 5 Great-great Grandchildren.
Mom lost her parents at a young age and found her way from Celina TX to Detroit and then onto Chicago. Mom was a strong hard working woman with a soft sweet voice. She would always have time to enjoy and support the family. She was a rock we could all lean up against.
To know Lydia, Mom, Grandma is to know a sweet loving and patient woman. She was funny and oh how she loved Elvis Presely. She adored elephants and could grow a forest out of a stick. She was an animal lover and cared deeply for birds and dogs.
She never learned to drive but that never stopped her from getting around and visiting and traveling as often as possible. She worked as a waitress and tells the story of meeting John Wayne “the Duke”.
She will be remembered as a great cook, her tamales and enchiladas topping the list. She loved to host and put out a feast. Even simple sandwiches turned into a full course meal. She participated in many church, school and gymnastic events. Her generosity was greatly felt.
As we say goodbye and lay her to rest after this long, rich life full of joy, tears and unconditional love let us all be happy knowing we are the favorite and not mourn but celebrate the amazing life she lived
