Loretta Read

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Loretta Read, who peacefully passed away on January 11, 2025, after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.

Born on March 5, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, Loretta was adopted by the loving couple, Ila and Doc Pointer. At the age of 19, she married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Read, and together they created a beautiful family, raising four children with love and devotion.

Loretta had a heart full of kindness and a spirit that was unwavering. She spent much of her life giving back to her community, dedicating her time to volunteer at the local middle and elementary schools. Her passion for helping others was matched only by her love of puzzles, which she often enjoyed solving while surrounded by her family. Loretta’s greatest joy, however, came from being with her grandchildren. Their laughter and presence were the light of her life.

Loretta is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Read, her sons Richard Read Jr. and Jamey Read, and her grandson Dylan Emslie. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love and determination will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Jenny Read-Emslie and her husband Brad Emslie, as well as her daughter Krystal Johnston and her husband Christopher Johnston. Loretta was also a proud grandmother to James and Emma Sparkman, Nolan Emslie, Brycen Emslie, and Preston Johnston. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she will forever be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Loretta’s strength, grace, and boundless love for her family will remain in our hearts forever. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were touched by her presence.

Rest in peace, Loretta. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
