Larry Wayne Thorn

March 3, 1943 — December 20, 2024

Larry Wayne Thorn of Lewisville, Texas passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, after a short illness.  Larry was born in Dallas, Texas and is third child of seven, Bobby, Wanda, Jack, Octevia, Johnny, and Jan.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Walker Thorn, his parents Noble Wanda Thorn (father) and Allie Lucille Collins Thorn (mother), along with three of his siblings, Bobby Thorn, Jack Thorn, and Octevia Thorn.  Larry was a 1986 graduate of McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree.

Larry grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and was an avid track star for W. W. Samuel High School in Dallas, Texas, and won several awards in track and field during his high school and college years.  He served in the United States Army and the United States Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972 and was a Repair Parts Specialist, receiving an Honorable Discharge from his duties.

Larry was the father of two daughters, Tevi Lea Thorn Caver of Double Oak, Texas, and Mendi Alice Thorn Burres and husband Stephen W. Burres, III of North Richland Hills, Texas.  Larry has two stepsons, Phillip Walker of Irving, Texas and Cory Walker of North Richland Hills, Texas.  Larry has three grandchildren, Mikayla R. Burres of Lubbock, Texas, Colton L. Burres of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Ryan D. Caver, or Double Oak Texas, along with two step grandchildren, Tori Walker Dillon of Sandford, Florida, and Gauge Walker of North Richland Hills, Texas.

Larry was a huge sports enthusiast and loved his hometown teams.  Larry coached girls’ basketball and track, junior high school and high school football, and cross-country events for the Childress Independent School District.

Larry has many life-long friends and never met a stranger.  He could talk politics, sports, and Texas History for hours, and had a love for music and Motown music in general.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but he is with our Lord and Savior and is running free of illness.

Romans 5:3-4 – Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.
