Kunnathu Varkey Paulose, born on April 22, 1933, in Kerala, India, passed away on January 7, 2025. The son of K. P. Varkey and Mary Varkey, he was raised in Ramamangalam, Kerala. Paulose lost his mother at the tender age of 11 but through the strength of his character and God's grace, completed his education at Nirmala High School. He then earned a Bachelor of Science from Aluwa University, being the first one in his family to do so.
Paulose began his career as an educator in Kerala and later in Nagaland, where he remarkably survived an attack by Naga tribesmen. In 1964, he relocated to Kuwait after marriage, working as a histopathology technician specializing in special stains. Continuing his journey, he moved to the United States in 1992 where he worked at Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth, until his retirement in 2002.
A devout member of St. Ignatious Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, Paulose had actively served as a vice president and Sunday School headmaster. His hobbies included playing badminton, practicing yoga (entertaining kids by standing on his head), and playing the card game '56'.
Paulose was the beloved husband of the late Aleyamma P. Kunnathu and the loving father of sons Anil and Sunil Paul. He was also the cherished father-in-law of Celestine Vettical. Kunnathu was preceded in death by his dear wife, Aleyamma, and beloved daughter, Mini Vettical.
His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Maya, Alanna, Pooja, Eesha, Diya, Dylan, and Aiden.
Kunnathu Varkey Paulose will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his resilience, devout faith, and a most humble and gentle nature. His story of survival, dedication to family and community, and love for life will inspire generations.
