Jose Antonio Renteria Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 6th, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on August 2nd, 1944, in Brownsville, Texas, to Placido Renteria and Maria Rebecca Davila, he lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jose was a devout Catholic whose faith was the cornerstone of his life. He found solace and strength in his beliefs, which guided him through both joyful and challenging times.
A man of simple pleasures, Jose enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Whether he was casting a line while fishing, strategizing during games of Domino's and bingo, or simply cruising the back roads, Jose's warm smile and infectious laughter brightened every gathering.
One particularly memorable 4th of July, Jose found himself in a moment of unexpected hilarity when a mischievous Roman candle sent a flame onto his head. In his characteristic good humor, he laughed along with his loved ones as he tried to extinguish the flame with gentle slaps.
Jose's greatest joy was his family, and he leaves behind a legacy of love. He is survived by his children, Tony Renteria (Melissa), Nancy Herrera, Nicholas Renteria (Erin), Placido Renteria (Melanie), and Andy Renteria (Emily), as well as his siblings Lydia Renteria, Jose Renteria, and Jorge Renteria. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, each a testament to his love and devotion.
Jose was preceded in death by his former spouse, Dominga Vargas Dominguez, his brother Jaime Renteria, his sister Alma Renteria, and his daughter Maria Guadalupe Renteria.
Jose Antonio Renteria Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, humor, and unwavering love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love of those who have gone before him, knowing he was cherished beyond measure and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him
