Jose Angel Ortiz-Bula, a decorated Korean War veteran and respected dairy industry professional, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2023, at the age of 91. He was born on May 18, 1931, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to his loving parents Jose Ortiz Irizarry and Conception "Conchita" Bula Rosario.
Jose proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he survived an ambush and a harrowing encounter in the middle of a minefield. His bravery and dedication to his fellow soldiers were commendable and earned him the respect of his peers.
After his military service, Jose pursued a successful career in the dairy industry, holding various managerial positions. He served as the Head Manager of Buena Vista Dairy in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and later as the Manager of Tres Monjitas Dairy in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He then moved to Texas and worked as a Quality Control Manager for Borden Dairy in Houston, Texas, and Oak Farms Dairy, also in Houston, Texas.
On February 28, 1959, Jose married the love of his life, Alicia Ortiz, and they shared a beautiful journey together. They were blessed with three children: Yadira Quiles, Jose Ortiz, and Alicia Arrufat. He was a devoted and loving father. Jose was also a proud and doting grandfather to Victoria Ortiz, Isabella Ortiz, Yazmin Santiago, Yanessa Quiles, Ryan Arrufat, and Edward Drowne.
Jose was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alicia Ortiz, and his daughter, Alicia Arrufat. He will be deeply missed by his surviving family, including his children, grandchildren, and caretakers Carmen Gomez, Patricia Rojas, Yessenia Scott, Angie Avelar Cajal, Patty Soriano, Sandra Renderos, and Lupita Guerrero, who took care of him with love and dedication.
Jose Angel Ortiz-Bula will be remembered for his bravery, resilience, and professionalism. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, courage, and commitment to his country and his family. May his soul rest in peace, and his memories be cherished forever.
