James Douglas (Doug) Carner, 59, of Rhome (formerly of Irving), passed away at home on September 20, 2020 after a year-long battle with cancer.
Doug was born in Fresno, California but lived all his adult life in Texas. He was the son of Emma Jo Massengale and stepfather Thomas Wayne Massengale. He attended Nimitz High School and worked several jobs throughout his life, but primarily for his stepfather at his piano moving business. He will be sadly missed and always remembered.
Doug loved everything mechanical and anything having to do with the outdoors. He was a good cook and enjoyed cooking for his family. He loved his family and was especially close to his mother, whom he helped care for during her extended battle with COPD.
He is survived by his stepfather Thomas Wayne Massengale; sister Laura Edwards (and family); step-sisters Michele Massengale (and family) and Stephanie Garcia (and family) as well as an aunt, an uncle and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Emma Jo Massengale; his brother Alan Craig Carner; his grandparents Joe and Emma Lee Savage and his uncle Lynn Savage, as well as many other loved ones.
Interment will be at Sowers Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a future date, when it’s safer to gather publicly.
Memorial donations in memory of Doug may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the hospice caretakers, and to Wayne Massengale and Michele Massengale, for the attentiveness, support and loving care they gave to Doug throughout his illness and during his final weeks.
