Hope Hampton King, 92, of Irving, Texas passed away peacefully with family at her side on December 23, 2022, in Frisco, Texas.
Hope was born on November 8, 1930, to Jodie Marvin Hampton and Mona Lucille Davenport Hampton in Naples, Texas. Hope was preceded in death by her seven siblings who all contributed to her overwhelming love of family. After Hope graduated from Naples’ Paul Pewitt High School in 1948, she went onto receive her Bachelor of Science Degree at North Texas State University.
Hope met her beloved husband of 64 years, Charles Donald “Don” King on a blind date while they were in college. Mutual interests in big band and dancing helped their new romance blossom. Hope and Don married on March 1, 1952, in Naples, Texas. They moved their young family to Irving in 1968. Hope taught high school English and Computer Science in the Irving ISD until retiring from MacArthur High School in 1990. Hope was a longtime member of the Irving Book Review Club and Irving Retired Teachers Association. Hope was an avid reader, crossword solver and bridge player. Hope instilled a passion for family fun and games, that carries on to this day through her entire family. Hope’s exemplary passionate care for children and their development has resulted in at least a half dozen teachers of all disciplines in the family throughout Texas and elsewhere.
Hope was preceded in death by her beloved Don, parents and her seven brothers and sisters.
Her passion for improving the lives of children and her devotion to Don was only exceeded by her love for her surviving twin children Douglas Lynn King and wife, Mary of Conway, Arkansas and Debra King Whelan and husband, Ken of Littleton, Colorado, and Pamela King Acker and husband, Chuck of Carrollton, Texas. Hope was blessed with six surviving grandchildren, Jarrod King, Meredith King Wintjen, Austin Whelan, Eric Whelan, Kristen Whelan Shoemaker, and Hilary Taylor: and five great-grandchildren Thomas, Callaghan, Quinnlyn, Paige, and Aria.
