Edward Lee McDonald, affectionately known as Big Mac, passed away on November 8, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on August 7, 1947, in Waxahachie, Texas, he was the son of Watson Cleveland McDonald and Anna Harris Murphrey. Edward was raised in Palmer, Texas, where he graduated from Palmer High School. He furthered his education at Navarro College and East Texas State University, specializing in Mathematics.
At the age of 22, Edward enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country with dedication for four years. Following his military service, he embarked on a 27-year career at Vought Aircraft Industries as a Production Control Analyst until his retirement.
A man of many interests, Edward was an avid golfer, enjoying many hours on the green. He was a passionate player of tabletop games, including cribbage, cards, and dominoes, and had a particular fondness for the digital handheld game, Yahtzee. His memberships included the VFW, Moose Lodge, and he was a past Worshipful Master of the Mike H. Thomas Masonic Lodge #1314.
Edward's life was enriched by his family and friends. He married Sandra Jean on February 23, 1968, and together they raised two children who brought them much joy. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Jean McDonald; children, Keith Lee McDonald and Rene Watson Sorrells; grandchildren, Paige Burrell, Travis Sorrells II, and Ashtyn-Blu Sorrells; great-grandchildren, Magnolia and Luke Burrell.
He was preceded in death by his father, Watson Cleveland McDonald; mother, Anna Harris Murphrey; sister, Pete-Ann Norrell; and brother-in-law, Mac Norrell.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to Edward's dedicated healthcare team, including but not limited to Judy, Bill, and Roger, for their compassionate care.
Edward’s life was a testament to his strong will, love for his family, and his enduring sense of humor. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
