Edward J. (Butch) Good, age 71, of Irving, TX., formerly of Brooklyn, New York passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, July 15, 2022 after a year long battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 29, 1950 in Broooklyn NY to Parents Robert Norman and Cecelia Agnes Goodwin Good. They preceded him in death along with his oldest brother Kenneth Good.
After graduating high school in Hicksville, NY, Edward joined the US Air Force during the Vietnam war where he served with the security police as a Airman 1st class in Alaska from 1969 until 1974. In 1974 Ed was trasferred to the Marine Corps and shipped out to Southeast Asia/Vietnam. Ed was promoted to Lance Corporal where he servied as a aircraft engine machanic and gunner on the Huey helicopter. On routine patrol while flying in the Huey helicopter and riding as the gunner, his helicopter was hit by enemy motor fire. The helicopter was so badly damaged that it fell straight from the sky. The two pilots and his fellow gunner were all killed in the accident. Ed substained two crushed knee, a broken hip, injured back and neck, but somehow survived the crash. After spending many months in the hospital healing from the injuries he substained in the helecopter crash he was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1975.
After serving in the military, Ed had various driving jobs and then not long after started a career with the United States Postal service where he worked until his retirement.
He attended the Catholic church and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union.
Ed loved playing cards, watching old movies and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ed was a collector of rare Coke-Cola and Disney memorabilia. He also had amazing luck at picking winning scratch off tickets. Even though Ed lived most of his life in pain from the injuries he substained during his military service, he seldom let that slow him down from a wonderful life full of fun, world travels and meeting new friends.
Ed is survived by Son, Matthew Good; Daughter, Elizabeth Good; Brother, Robert Good; Grandsons, Dylan and Joseph Good; Great Granddaughter, Layla; Nephews, Kenneth, James and Robbie.
The Family will receive guests from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26th at Chism-Smith Funeral Home with Rosary being recited at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27th at St. Luke Catholic Church in Irving with interment following at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The family of Edward Good would like to give a special thanks to his VA Caregiver and Vitas Health Care.
