Dixie Lee (Brewer) O'Callaghan

February 5, 1937 — June 13, 2023

Dixie Lee O'Callaghan, beloved and devoted wife and mother, passed away on June 13th, 2023. She was born on February 5th, 1937, and leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication to her family, faith, and community.

Dixie's spiritual journey took her through various churches, including the Methodist Church and First Evangelical Church- Memphis, Baptist Church-Cleveland, Ohio, Reformed Presbyterian Church-Richardson, TX, Irving Bible Church and as a founding member of Community Bible Church-Irving, TX. She poured her heart into the international student's ministry at Community Bible Church, serving as a second "mom" to numerous Asian students attending the University of Dallas and Community Bible Church. Her compassion and nurturing nature left a lasting impact on their lives.

Throughout her life, Dixie enjoyed pursuing her hobbies, which included painting, gardening, needlepoint, and volunteering at church. She ran her own craft business, Dixie Arts, for many years, and showcased her creations at Christian Bookseller's Association conferences. Dixie spent many years actively involved in ToastMasters and was a devoted member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her creative spirit shone brightly in everything she did.

Dixie's curiosity about her family history was sparked by her uncles, Leon and Ben, and she dove headfirst into researching not only her own family's history but also her husband John's lineage. She was always eager to share her discoveries with everyone, filled with excitement and pride.

On January 27th, 1956, Dixie married the love of her life, John Joseph O'Callaghan the third. Together, they embarked on a journey of love, partnership, and shared dreams. Dixie's unwavering support and devotion were the foundation of their marriage. Sadly, John passed away in June 2020 from pneumonia and complications caused by COVID-19. They will be reunited in Heaven as Dixie will be laid to rest alongside him at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.

Dixie is survived by her son, Mickey O'Callaghan and his wife Judy (Cypress, TX). They have two children:  Dixie’s granddaughter Rachael Fordinal (Cypress, TX); and Dixie’s grandson Ryan O’Callaghan and his wife Amanda (Siguatepeque, Honduras). She is also survived by three great-grandsons: Keller Fordinal, Reid Fordinal and Ian O’Callaghan.

Dixie's daughter, Danna Harrington, and her husband Tom, who reside in Lexington, KY, also survive her. They have three children: Dixie's grandson Tom and his wife Alicia from Huntsville, Alabama, Dixie’s granddaughter Katie Harrington from Chicago, and Dixie’s granddaughter Vicki Harrington and her husband Adam Dobrik from Germantown, Maryland.

Dixie's sister, Vonita Carpenter, and her husband David Carpenter from Fayetteville, AR, along with their daughter, Dixie's niece Shannon Carpenter from the Seattle, WA area, mourn her passing. Dixie's niece Debi Reyes, from Jonesboro, AR, survives her as well, representing her late brother Frank.

Dixie was predeceased by her siblings Robert and Bertha, as well as her parents, Granville and Grace Brewer.

Dixie Lee O'Callaghan's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her kindness, passion, and unwavering love for her family and community will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
