Christine Halepaska

Christine Halepaska, of Irving Texas passed away on Friday August 11, 2023 at the age of 92 years.

Chris contracted a respiratory infection and was hospitalized with breathing complications on August 3, 2023. She continued to decline until she passed away just shy of her 93rd birthday. She passed peacefully surrounded by her children and their spouses.

Christine was born on September 22, 1930 in Quinter Kansas to Nicholas and Leogardia Zerr.  She graduated from St. Rose School of Nursing in Great Bend Kansas and practiced nursing for more than 35 years. She was 2nd most tenured employee with 30+ years when she retired from Irving Community Hospital in 1994.

Unknown by most who knew her, she wore a prosthetic leg. A week before her third birthday, Chris suffered a farming accident resulting in the amputation of her left foot and severely damaging her right ankle. It was a miracle that she survived.  Despite this apparent handicap she thrived as a wife, mother, and nurse.   She was still an amazing athlete winning ribbons at field day at school.  She claimed to be able to outrun her brothers when it was time to bring the cows in.

On a blind date she met James P. Halepaska who later became her husband of 59 years. They settled in Irving, Texas where she lived in the same house until January 2023 when she transitioned to a long term care facility following a hospitalization for another respiratory infection.

In retirement, Chris and Jim traveled the country in their motorhome either by themselves when visiting extended family or with a caravan of friends while exploring new places.  She also enjoyed endless hours reading her magazines and mail order catalogs at her spot at the kitchen table and tending to her extensive potted plant collection (that her kids were obliged to move in and out of the house at least twice a year—sorry Mom, had to go there…)

Chris was a loving and supportive wife and mother. She took special joy in being surrounded by her family. From one on one, to extended family reunions, she loved to visit and catch up on their lives and meet the new babies.

Chris was predeceased in death by her husband James P. Halepaska.

She is survived by her Children: James A Halepaska (Ginger), Neil Halepaska (Lori), Jane Mohr (Alan); Grand Children: Michelle Mohr, Christopher Mohr, James B Halepaska (Amanda) and Anna Halepaska;

We are glad that Mom and Dad are together again in Heaven.
