Carol Joyce Wilks, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and retired teacher passed away on December 16, 2020. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne D. Wilks, 13 years to-the-day earlier. They were married 52 years.
Carol Williams was born on November 29, 1934, in Orlando FL. She graduated from Orlando High School, Orlando Junior College, and Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. Carol met her husband, Wayne, while they both attended MTSU, and they were married in Nashville, TN, on December 20, 1955.
She spent the early years of her career in Port Lavaca and San Angelo, before coming to Shady Oaks Elementary in Hurst, where she remained until her retirement in 1988 after 25 years in elementary education. Carol taught children’s Bible classes, participated in Bible Study Fellowship and in its leadership, was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and wrote articles that were published in several teacher magazines and Boys’ Life. She was a long-time member of the Richland Hills Church of Christ and was a member of Gateway Church in Southlake at the time of her death.
Carol’s greatest desire was to see her family and friends grow closer to Jesus and God’s plan for their lives.
She is survived by, Son, Wayne Wilks, Jr and wife Bonnie of Grapevine; Daughter, Ginger Morton and husband Scott of Euless; Sister Meredith Williams Rubar of Vestavia Hills, AL; and Sister Robin Williams and Tammy Bregman of Atlanta, GA; Brother-in-law Ed Wilks and Becky of Belton. Grandchildren, Taylor Monts of Chicago, IL, Trenton Monts and Winifred of N Richland Hills, Trey Monts and Christin of Austin, Julia Stringham and Daniel of Bedford, and Abigail Morton of Denton. Great Grandchildren, Rebecca Monts, Troy Monts, and Vivienne Stringham. And many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be at Gateway Church Grand Prairie Campus, 2404 N Carrier Pkwy, Grand Prairie, TX on Monday, Dec. 21, at 10 am. The funeral may also be viewed on Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/pg/GatewayGRP/.
Graveside Services will be at Bartlett Cemetery in Bartlett, TX, on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 11 am.
