Carl Wayne Riley

June 12, 1943 — July 4, 2024

Carl Wayne Riley, a cherished member of the Grand Prairie community, passed away on July 4th, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on June 12th, 1943, in Memphis, Texas, to Carl Max Riley and Floy Ellen Huff, Carl’s life was marked by dedication, service, and melody.

Carl spent two enriching years in the army, where he not only served his country but also nurtured his love for music, singing in the choir. His musical journey began at the young age of 15 when he self-taught himself to play guitar, a passion that remained with him throughout his life, blessing many with his performances in his local church and community gatherings.

After his military service, Carl embarked on various professional paths—selling life insurance with Woodmen of the World, working in potash mines in New Mexico, and driving semi trucks in Irving, TX. Initially doing long haul trips when younger and later switching to local routes, his diverse experiences reflected his adaptability and hardworking essence. Carl concluded his professional career as a bus driver for Grand Prairie I.S.D., a job he thoroughly enjoyed, cherished for the interactions it afforded him with many young lives.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Carl devoted two years as a volunteer with missionaries in the Congo, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to service and helping others. His hobbies included fishing, a pastime that allowed him peaceful reflections and memorable moments with friends and family.

Carl is remembered lovingly by his family; he is preceded in death by his daughter Leah Zapporah Riley and sister Loretta Shirley. He leaves behind a profound legacy through his surviving siblings: Lawanda Riley, Jean White, Robin Buckner, and Nancy Chandler; his three children; and his adored 13 grandchildren, including Micah Obadiah Riley’s children: Kimora, Te'Anna Cordova, Nessiyah, Neykhi Riley, and Nikolai Parker.

Carl’s life was a beautiful melody, composed of his faith, his love for music, and his unwavering service to others. He carried a belief that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, a comforting thought for all who knew him. Trailwood Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, where Carl was an active member, will miss his musical contributions and his joyful spirit.

As we remember Carl Wayne Riley, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. His spirit, songs, and stories will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace in the glorious presence of the Lord he faithfully served.
