Blanche Lorraine Carpenter, age 84, of Irving, Texas went to her Heavenly home on Friday, November 4, 2022. She was born on September 17, 1938 in New Orleans, LA to John and Lessie Nunnery. They both preceded her in death along with her husband of 60 years, Johnny Carpenter. Blanche graduated in the first graduating class of Murrah High School in Jackson, MS. She graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy. Blanche worked at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas from 1960-1971. She then went to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and retired in 2003 after 32 years, as the Director of the Physical Therapy Department. Blanche and Johnny were members of First Baptist Church of Irving since the early 1960’s. Her true calling in life was to rescue animals. She loved animals and wanted to help as many as possible. She volunteered at the DFW Humane Society, the City of Irving Animal Services Department and co-founded Homeward Bound Animal Rescue and the Humane Animal Rescue Team (HART). Blanche spent 21 years with HART rescuing, rehabbing and adopting animals. The organization adopted out over 4900 dogs, over 3300 cats, 4 ferrets and 2 rabbits. She leaves behind her daughter, Susan Waits (Tom); sons, Steve Carpenter (Samantha), Scott Carpenter, Stan Carpenter; brother, Doug Nunnery; niece, Mary Ann Miller; grandsons, Caleb Carpenter and Connor Carpenter. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., on Monday, November 14th at Chism-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15th also at Chism-Smith Funeral Home with interment following at DFW National Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite animal rescue organization or to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
