Alton Wendell Johnston

Alton Wendell Johnston, age 92 of Rockwall, Texas passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022. He was born on September 19, 1929 in McComb, Mississippi to Junius Aaron and Myrtis (Lambert) Johnston. They both preceded him in death along with his wife Peggy Johnston; daughter Marla Johnston; son Alton Mark Johnston; siblings, Darrell, Ferrell, Weldon Jeweline and Marie; Wendell served his country in both the United States Army and Navy. After getting out of the service he joined the Los Angeles Fire Department as an engineer on the snorkel rigs. He was a Captain 2 when he retired at the young age of 48 in 1979. Wendell enjoyed working on cars, watches and all things electrical. He liked to fish and to help others wherever he could. Wendell was a member of Meadow View Church of Christ and the Fireman's Association. He leaves behind his daughter Janna Whitten and husband Ken; son Brian Johnston and wife Marti; daughter-in-law Maria Johnston; grandchildren Rebecca Johnston, Daniel, Matthew and Scott O'Connell and Caitlin Dickey; great-grandchildren Cameryn O'Connell, Ezra and Esther Dickey, Katie Johnston; siblings Aaron Johnston and wife Barbara, Fiesta McEwin and husband Tom. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations be made to the Fireman's Disaster Relief Fund or Meadow View Church of Christ. The family will receive guests from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11th at Chism-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. also at the Funeral Home..
